The World Green Building Council was established in 2002 and is the global locus of a worldwide network of national green building councils in 100 countries. Together they form the largest international network influencing the green building marketplace.

The original brandmark employed the analogy of the atom and was representative of water, land and air (a metaphor which needed to be retained in the brand refresh conducted with us). Our core objective was to evolve the WorldGBC brand to represent the five regions and show their connection to the WorldGBC brand. In order to achieve this we developed an identity system that represented the five regions (five parts of a whole) that portrays the connection ‘between the regional and global’. This is reflected in the icon made up of five rings circling the nucleus to represent the forces that unite the regions to the core. WorldGBC strengthens green building councils worldwide by connecting them to a central nucleus of knowledge, inspiration, initiatives, practical support as well as by driving global collaboration.

All five regions embrace five core values (knowledge, inspiration, leadership, support and collaboration) and are enriched by five critical elements (water, land, air, energy and people).
